Our safety standard
Every farm on Soil Over Screens is audited in person against this standard. The tier decides what a farm may offer. Certification expires and is re-audited.
| Tier | What it guarantees | What it allows | Re-audit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tier 1 · Visit-safe | Handwash stations at every animal-contact exit, drinking water, toilets, shade, first aid, fenced boundaries, a hospital within a stated drive time. | Farm walks, gardening, village play, cooking. | 12 months |
| Tier 2 · Animal-contact certified | Everything in Tier 1, plus current animal health and vaccination records, designated contact animals with temperament checks, separate feed and bedding areas, and a trained handler present. | Goat feeding, supervised animal care, milking demonstration. | 6 months |
| Tier 3 · Under-5 approved | Everything in Tier 2, plus supervised handwashing at child height, enforced no-contact zones, capacity for one adult per two children, and an accompanying adult for all animal contact. | Bookings that include children under 5. | 6 months |
Rules on every farm
- Milking is a demonstration and a supervised touch. Children are only ever served boiled or pasteurised milk, never raw.
- Mud play happens only in a prepared plot with no recent manure, no standing water, and a rinse area next to it.
- Handwashing with soap and running water is a scheduled activity after every animal area, supervised for under-5s.
